Do you value your life or do you take shortcuts when no one is looking? What price are you willing to pay for that shortcut? Is an injury worth the time saved? If you are injured, time is not saved. Work stops, investigations start, and depending on the severity of the injury, it could take hours, days, weeks, months, or even years to put the injury behind you. For serious injuries or deaths, it is never over.
Priority = the state of having the most importance or urgency
Priorities can change based on circumstances or even preferences.
Value = the worth, importance, or usefulness of something to somebody
Values are intrinsic, unchangeable without changing the person it’s attached to.
The difference between working safely and having an injury can be a split second or a fraction of an inch. It is the difference between taking a split second to tie off or exposing yourself to a fall hazard unprotected. It is the difference between moving your hands a fraction of an inch out of the line of fire or exposing them to a cut hazard. It is the difference between taking the time to put on personal protective equipment or exposing yourself to ANY hazard without the protection that you need.
Take the time to evaluate your task and to do what is needed to ensure you go home the same way you came in. Use your common sense. Working in an unsafe manner is the same as putting a price on your life.
Life is priceless. Protect yourself.
