In his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Steven Covey says that humans have Response Ability, which is the ability to choose how they respond to any given situation. It is a proven fact that one person’s attitude can affect an entire room of people. By the same token, reacting in a positive way to someone else’s negative attitude can lift that other person out of their negativity. Bad moods happen for a vast variety of reasons, and while many people believe that everything happens for a reason, it is thought too, by many, that we aren’t always going to know what that reason is. If we had a pair of magic glasses, we could see the reasons for the bad attitudes of others, but since we don’t, the best course of action could be to use Response Ability and not let the attitudes of others influence your own.
